We worked with Mace over a period of 4 months before finding the right one. We are out-of-owners, and he was welcoming from the start and happy to show us a number of homes while we figured out exactly what we wanted. He's been in the area for years and shared lots of wisdom about homes as well as the community and fun events. During the process, we ended up meeting his family too and really felt welcomed. He works solo, so all communication and paperwork was directly with him. I'm hoping we don't need another real estate agent for many years, but we will use him again if we do!
I highly recommend John. He was extremely helpful assisting me in tracking down info and details on a long list mining claim I inherited and want to sell. After quite a bit of work on his part John ultimately recommended a sales strategy that didn't even involve a commission for himself. His honesty and willingness to help without self serving motivation are rare and refreshing. Hire this guy! He's the best!

My partner and I had the pleasure of working with John Mace for a recent home purchase in Durango. This was our first home purchase, in one of the most challenging buyer's markets in decades, and our inability at first to travel to Durango (due to the pandemic) made the situation even more difficult. Mace was very patient with us as we wrapped our heads around the process, the multitude of documents we needed to sign, and the pros and cons of various areas around town. Mace's understanding of the Durango housing market is apparent. He was very thorough in our walkthroughs to identify features that matched our criteria, those that didn't, and issues that would require attention or repair. We appreciated his snappy style and willingness to sacrifice his personal well-being to test the heights of showers and low ceilings, investigate decrepit wood sheds, and repair crumbling doors while we gawked on camera. He was a great partner to have as we and the seller negotiated various compromises during the contract process. Mace went above and beyond to aid us with our moving logistics. He also was helpful in making introductions to local plumbers and handymen. Throughout the whole process he was incredibly responsive, kept great attention to detail, and had a good sense of humor about everything. We would happily work with him again and recommend him to anyone looking to purchase real estate in Durango.

Mace was extremely helpful in our home buying process. Not only was he very knowledgeable about the area and the purchasing process, but was also very patient with us in our 6+ month search for a house and had answers to all of our questions. He fully understood what was important to us in a home and helped us find the perfect housing solution for our wants, needs, budget and lifestyle. Closing took longer than expected due to some repairs that needed to be handled and Mace was by our side to help us negotiate purchase price, relay our expectations to the sellers and help consult with contractors. Overall Mace made the whole process run smoothly and was always prompt to respond to questions.
