Step into more than 120 years of Colorado history at the Wrightsman House, a magnificent 6-bedroom, 5-bath Victorian residence with a historic carriage house in the charming mountain town of Mancos. Constructed in 1903 for Dr. John B. Wrightsman, this locally significant property was originally designed as both a private residence and hospital. It later became the distinguished Wrightsman Hotel and boarding house, remembered as one of the area’s most prominent social destinations. Traveling salesmen arrived by train to enjoy its hospitality and celebrated cuisine, while banquets, card parties, community gatherings, and fashionable weddings filled its rooms with life. Now thoughtfully refurbished to honor its original interior, the home retains the craftsmanship and architectural character that make it truly irreplaceable. Original hardwood floors, beautifully preserved doors and trim, cast-iron radiators, multiple fireplaces, and a grand hardwood staircase with turned balusters and paneled walls create an atmosphere of timeless elegance. A complete suite on the top floor provides added privacy and flexibility for owners, extended family, or guests. The home’s dramatic exterior is equally impressive & there are numerous grants available for updates. Locally quarried sandstone, wood-shingle detailing, leaded diamond-pane windows, distinctive bay windows, eyebrow dormers, decorative half-timbering, and an expansive covered porch showcase an exceptional blend of Victorian, Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque, and revival-style influences. Mature trees, established lawns, historic ornamental iron fencing, and the carriage house add to the property’s storybook setting. Situated in the heart of Mancos and surrounded by the beauty of Southwest Colorado, the property offers convenient access to the La Plata Mountains, Mesa Verde National Park, Durango, Telluride, and countless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, hunting, and year-round exploration. Make it an unforgettable private residence, a multigenerational home, or explore its potential as a luxury Airbnb, bed and breakfast, boutique inn, retreat destination, or event venue, subject to local requirements and approvals. Few properties offer this combination of architectural beauty, flexible living space, mountain-town charm, and documented history. The Wrightsman House is not simply a place to live—it is a legacy waiting for its next steward.
